Iowa Tax Return Deadline Extended

IOWA – Taxpayers affected by Hurricane Sandy whose quarterly Iowa sales and use tax and withholding returns for the period ending September 30, 2012 and were due on October 31 will have until November 7 to file along with payments.

There will be no penalty or interest for taxpayers located in the impacted area. Although the IDR eFile & Pay system will automatically calculate penalty and interest, disregard the penalty and interest for the September 2012 quarter and pay only the tax due IF YOU ARE LOCATED IN THE IMPACTED AREA.

If you are filing Iowa income tax returns for a fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, you also have until November 7 to file without penalty of interest if located in the impacted area. An automatic six month extension to file Iowa income tax returns will be granted if 90% of the tax due was paid by the original due date, in this case filers have until November 7 to send their return without a penalty.
