Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday

2nd amendmentTEXAS- Senate Bill 228, also known as The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday Act, was passed in the Texas Senate in May. Now the bill is waiting to be scheduled for a vote in the House Ways and Means Committee. The tax break would be for the last weekend in August each year just before the local hunting season begins. If the bill passes in the House, it would be applicable to firearms, ammunition, firearm cleaning supplies, gun safes, gun cases, blinds/stands, optics, and other hunting supplies.

Louisiana has been providing a sales tax break the weekend before hunting season begins since 2009, putting east Texas gun retailers at a disadvantage for the past 5 years. Mississippi and South Carolina also offer a similar sales tax break. Legislation has been introduced in Alabama, Colorado, Missouri, and Wyoming for a second amendment sales tax break as well.
