Sales tax break on Gun Safety in Michigan

gun-rights

Michigan –Michigan gun owners may be receiving a state sales tax exemption on their gun safes and trigger locks making it easier and more appealing for those with fire arms to purchase safety devices in efforts to cut down on accidental gun deaths. The bill has passed 37-0 in the Senate and now moves on to the House. If passed it is set to remain in effect until 2018. Four States, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and Washington, currently have similar sales tax exemptions and are ranked as states with the least amount of gun deaths.

Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, who is proposing the Senate Bill said, “We have a rich cultural heritage of responsible gun ownership, certainly with the Second Amendment of the constitution, and I’ve been one to support that wholeheartedly. I like to sponsor legislation that encourages something, and I think encouraging proper storage of firearms to prevent unintentional crimes is a very important thing we can do to help protect our young ones.”
