Back to School Sales Tax Holiday by State

NATIONWIDE – According to the National Retail Federation, an average family spends $637.78 for shoes, supplies, apparel, and electronics for back to school. An Estimated $83.6 Billion is expected to be generated for back to school sales this year which is a 10% increase from the previous year.  In 2016, back to school spending generated $75.8 Billion, which was up from the $68 billion in 2015.

Some states have no statewide sales tax (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon) while others like Pennsylvania and Vermont already exempt some necessities like clothing. Sales have started popping up and so have the dates for the Back to School Sales Tax Holidays. Here’s a list of states offering taxpayers a break for Back to School:

Alabama Back to School Weekend 2017 – July 21-23, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

Florida Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 4-6, 2017 – Thursday – Saturday.

Missouri Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 4-6, 2017 – Thursday – Saturday.

New Mexico Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 4-6, 2017 – Thursday – Saturday.

Ohio Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 5-7, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

Oklahoma Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 11-13, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

South Carolina Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 4-6, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

Texas Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 11-13, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

Virginia Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 4-6, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

Iowa Sales Tax Holiday 2017 – August 4-5, 2017 – Friday – Saturday only.

Louisiana Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 4-5, 2017 – Friday and Saturday only.

Tennessee Tax-free Weekend 2017 – July 28 – 30, 2017 – Friday – Sunday.

Arkansas Sales Tax-Free Weekend 2017 – August 5-6, 2017 – Saturday and Sunday only.

Maryland Tax-Free Week 2017 – August 13-19, 2017 – Sunday – Saturday.

Connecticut Tax-Free Week 2017 – August 20-27, 2017 – Sunday – Sunday.
