Girl Scout Cookies
IDAHO – Every year, Girl Scout cookies bring in about $150,000 in sales tax revenue. Julie Hart, a Girl Scout mom and lobbyist in Boise, encouraged her daughter’s troop to try and get an exemption from sales tax since the Scouts are a nonprofit.
Although the exemption was won in the state house, it was stopped in the state senate. The decision was economic, said Republican Representative Jim Patrick.
Even though they lost, the Girl Scouts say this was a valuable experience to “learn about politics, ethics, about our world and what’s in it,” said Ella Marcum, Girl Scout.
