Delinquent Taxpayers Cannot Renew Tax Licenses
CONNECTICUT – Delinquent taxpayers can expect to receive letters from The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) where they will be given the opportunity to renew their sales tax license.
Effective July 1, 2013, the new law prevents the renewal of sales tax, cigarette tax or tobacco products tax license for taxpayers who owe state tax and are not in a payment agreement. Once the outstanding debts are paid or taxpayer enters into payment agreement with the DRS, they can get a new tax license.
“DRS will make every effort to bring taxpayers into compliance with state tax laws, but it is a two-way street. Taxpayers must make an effort to pay what they owe or they cannot continue doing business. It simply isn’t fair to the majority of Connecticut business owners who pay their taxes,” said Kevin B. Sullivan, Commissioner.
