Hawaii—Sales & Use Tax: Announcement to Revoke License Due to Abandonment
The Hawaii Department of Taxation has issued a notice advising of the revocation of tax licenses for relinquishment. Hawaii Administrative Regulations require the Department to post a license revocation letter of intent on its website for at least 45 days before the tax license is revoked. The announcement serves as an indication that the Department will post a searchable list
of discontinued licenses on its website from May 16, 2022, to June 30, 2022. To determine whether to revoke the license, license holders can use the tax license lookup available on the Department’s website (https://tax.hawaii.gov/eservices). After locating the tax license, locate the column on the right labeled “Account Status. If you see Revocation Pending status means that no periodic or annual tax returns have been received for at least five
years and that the Department will revoke the license for duty effective July 1, 2022.
If the Licensee wishes to retain the tax license, the taxpayer must: • File delinquent tax returns; or • request by writing a letter to the Director of Taxes explaining why the revocation should not be made before June 30, 2022.
If a taxpayer does not want to keep the tax license, no action is required. The tax license is automatically terminated and revoked after June 30, 2022. Please note that tax liability remains whether a license is closed by surrender or otherwise.
