Seattle Gun Violence Tax Not Paying Off

Washington – Since January of 2016, Seattle has enforced the “Gun Violence Tax.”  The tax law charges gun sellers a sales tax of Twenty-five dollars per gun and between two to five cents per round of ammunition. The revenue is allotted to study the causes of gun violence in hopes of reducing  costs to taxpayers.

The Tax was initially projected to raise between $300,000 to $500,000 annually.  However, this did not come to fruition. In the first year, the tax law brought in less than $200,000, according to Seattle City Councilmember Tim Burgess.  The “Gun Violence Tax” has since caused many of the local gun dealers just to pack up and move to other towns outside of the Anti-Gun law.

Unexpectedly, gun violence crimes have also increased.  According to the Seattle Police Department and Fox News, the reported number of shots fired has gone up 13%, the number of injured in shootings has jumped up by 37%, and deaths have doubled.
